PJM case study
Innolith’s technology has been proven through deployment in the US state of Maryland where it provided grid stabilisation services for the PJM market and helped ensure a reliable power on for residents and businesses.
PJM Interconnection coordinates the movement of electricity through all or parts of Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Maryland, Michigan, New Jersey, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Virginia, West Virginia and the District of Columbia.
The Innolith GridBank is located in Hagerstown, Maryland. The 2MW, 1MWh system was installed in August 2017 to deliver frequency and voltage regulation services for the PJM wholesale market.
During 2019, the GridBank was upgraded with the replacement of many of the original batteries with Innolith’s new generation batteries, as well as a major update to the Battery Management System. This has provided Innolith with a test-bed for its latest technology, while also demonstrating that the GridBank is a fully operational model and ready for manufacture on a turn-key basis.
Since installation, the Innolith batteries have scored over 95% in PJM Performance Rating Tests with peaks of 98.52%; the highest on the PJM grid.
PJM Reg D Frequency Regulation has one of the toughest signals and multi-cycle duty requirements in the energy industry – and Innolith’s high lifecycle power battery is perfectly suited to this application.
