Patent Engineer (m/f/d)

Role Summary:

Innolith has an open position for a Patent Engineer who will support lawyers and experts on Innolith’s various IP matters, including document preparation and management, assisting with research, inventor notification management, patent, trademark formalities, Freedom-to-Operate investigations, data analysis, reporting and other IP program support.

Supports patent attorneys and inventors in a wide variety of tasks including (but not limited to): creativity workshops, the preparation of invention disclosures, retrieving of legal status information, patent prosecution, and maintenance decisions.

Innolith also operates a large test area with over 1,500 test channels for cell tests.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Supports patent attorneys and inventors in a wide variety of tasks including (but not limited to): creativity workshops, the preparation of invention disclosures, retrieving of legal status information, patent prosecution, and maintenance decisions.
  • File new patent, trademark applications prepared by patent attorneys and internal specialists
  • Track status of IP matters, prepare and handle filings, coordinate incoming and outgoing file
    transfers, and execute formal documents to meet their deadlines
  • Oversees and manages Freedom-to-Operate investigations and screening of patent activities of competitors in the field of electrochemical cells
  • Review and process incoming correspondence regarding current status of registered IP
  • Review, process, and maintain IP document management, for filing deadlines, including preparing reminders to attorneys
  • Organize documents, IP agreements, and other administrative files as requested
  • Assist in drafting legal and other documents and correspondence

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Science degree is required. A degree in electrical engineering or equivalent work experience is also required. (pre-Law degree preferred)
  • Minimum of 5 years of work experience 3 of which must be in corporate environment in the international patent practice and in product development
  • A high interest in IP matters and in particular the ability to review and interpret IP publications.
  • Physical Environment/Working Conditions: Office environment (Word, PowerPoint, Excel), and an interest in learning other computer applications
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in German and English. Ability to distill and communicate complex technical and legal concepts clearly and succinctly.

Desired Characteristics:

  • Familiar with European Patent Office rules and procedures, and a
    basic understanding of foreign patent prosecution procedures is strongly preferred
  • Proven organizational and analytical skills with extraordinary attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently and efficiently; ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and writing skills including editing and proofreading
  • Self-starter and proactive problem solver
  • Team player; experience working in a fast-paced environment
